Ben Maltz Gallery Featuring MAKE:CRAFT

The Ben Maltz Gallery at OTIS opened their MAKE:CRAFT gallery exhibition today at 4pm. Wait...but it's only 12:40pm right now...so...how?

That's right. Yours truly got a sneak peek. ;) And how? Well, it wasn't hard. It's called meandering around the grounds looking into the gallery windows while looking particularly saddened that it says "Closed." Happens that one of the gallery Curators was present and so decided to let me in for a closer look. Oh man, I lucked out! I got to see everything, experience (more on this later) everything and try it all out before anyone else was present. Which of course meant not having to shuffle through the opening ceremony and tons of bodies.

So onto the actual work. I took a few snap-shots of the work on display (I hope that this won't get me into trouble...) and will reflect on a few pieces there. All in all it was a beautiful display of crafting skills. Some were more conventional than others, some were simply mind-blowing and a few left you feeling a bit like a kid in a candy store. By this of course I am referring to Eddo Sterns 'DarkGame' which is being held at the gallery exhibit now. It was...fascinating.

Anyways, here a few images, obviously not all of the pieces, ( as I encourage all to go see it if given the chance. Well worth it and its FREE :D ) enjoy!

Otis Art Post #1

Artwork for my Perspectives in New Tech Class:

These are thumbnails done purely for entertainment of an assignment, I think I spent a total of three minutes on each. Haha, Can't you tell? The real Assignments will be uploaded as soon as they are returned. :)

These two are my pseudo editorial frames from 'The Red Death', just as the ghoul in question begins to turn and leave from his highness' presence.

Artwork from Drawings Animals for Films:

Here is artwork uploading from some of my sketch archives for my Animal Drawing course with Gary Geraths. I thoroughly enjoy this class, more so than any other class thus far. I really look forward to seeing what I can learn here, and Gary is a splendid teacher and individual. Very animated haha.

Anyways, the first three are from an assignment in where he asked us for a werewolf of our choice. Naturally, this was a Work in Progress and as such represents much of the humanistic traits as well.

Second, are some drawings done from observation of Skeletons at the Page Museum Tar Pitts. Very different and new to me, and I apologize for my lack of understanding the animal. I am working hard to ensure I improve. :)

And just a little something I doodled while watching Triumph of the Nerds Pt. 2 in Concepts and Issues today...

Art Post #1

In this post I will be uploading some images I did prior to my work at OTIS. The next entry will include works from the previous 3 weeks at OTIS college of Art and Design.

Before I get into uploading and all that glory--I got an email this morning from Harry Mott, the Department Chair of Digital Media, asking me to come see him about my animation goals. Huh, interesting right? Turns out he read my blog with the help of one of OTIS' search engines. Cat's out of the bag ladies and gents! They see everything! Haha, well I didn't mind, sure as hell got me into his office to see him. After talking to him for a short while about what I wanted to do, what I want to do, and where I will be doing it--he is going to be emailing me some contact information on a few graduates as well as contacts in general of heading up the industry for 2D animation. I'm happy to see that he is willing to work with me in terms of what I want.

I really enjoy OTIS, and I know the school has a lot to offer me in terms of preparation and what to expect to find out there in the workforce. I know that is one of the key advantages to this school. But I want what I want, and I will work as hard as it calls for to get there.

Also? I bought some materials to start brushing up on my Figure Drawing skills to prepare to form another portfolio should I need one. And its just in general a good idea to make sure I have keen and clean skills in anatomy.

So First off---Here are a few pieces I did while waiting mindlessly for school to stat. Nothing spectacular, I promise. :)

Side Note for the Masses

Not that this is of any particular importance, but I am sitting in my 3D modeling class right now. This class happens to be the second slowest of all my courses at OTIS college of Art and Design, with the most mad-chill teacher perhaps, known to man. I should be paying attention to this lecture.

Lately Ive been considering the education I'll be offered at OTIS and I am wondering if it's what I am looking for. This school tailors much to the industry that they fully intend to thrust you into. My concern being of course is that I am not being thrust into the industry I want...I want to animate. I want to be an animator. I do not want to do much 3D work though I am fully aware I cannot escape it entirely. And lastly, I want to work with my drawings. Not rely entirely on programs alone. Is that too much to ask..?

After a year at OTIS I will decide on what my path will be. If it looks like I might have a chance at doing what I want to do, then sure why not but if not--I might look into transferring to a school that might better meet my needs. I want to animate folks. I don't know if OTIS gives me that, or offers that to me. I will schedule an appointment with my Department Chair to see what I can come up with, if 2D animation or Animation in general is available. Let's hope for the best hmmm?

In terms of work, I do have some work that I am considering posting on here. I suppose, since the entire purpose of this blog is to post updates on my work that is what I will do. Tonight then, I will go through and take pictures of all my latest works. With the exception of certain school works---as many of them are in the hands of my professors at the moment. Until I get them back, then. :)

From the Beginning, This time...with Feeling!

Andrew got drunk last night...

Heh, not entirely sure what it is that disgusts me about that. Maybe because I figured, if anyone, it would be Andrew that would stick through the thick and thin of life to live up to my morals. But I guess if he knew the skeletons that were hiding in my closet, then maybe he wouldn't feel so different than I am feeling now.

I'm not entirely too sure why I have this blogspot. Maybe its because I start school in ten days, or...perhaps its because I've got nothing better to do than write mindless banter across the screen to post on a page that has...oh, one, watcher? I digress...The Art of Marissa Gonzales may yet be retired in its tender youth but that really all depends on how OTIS goes over the next two to three weeks. If, for example, I end up making actual pieces of artwork. Now wouldn't that be a sight.

I wish I had something more to update. Life goes on and on, with or without them. For now, all I can say is that I miss my boyfriend. He isn't a distraction, he is my best friend. And I miss him.
